Kaiperm Credit Union Teams With Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa to Feed Our Hungry Neighbors
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa has been feeding the hungry of Contra Costa County since 1983 through its food pantry, which is stocked by donations, and its dining rooms, which serve hot meals in Antioch, Martinez, Oakley, Pittsburg, and Walnut Creek. Since its founding, Loaves and Fishes has served more than six million meals to tens of thousands of our hungry Contra Costa neighbors.
Kaiperm Credit Union, a long-time supporter of Loaves and Fishes, hosts a food drive every fall, prominently displaying a large food drive barrel in the lobby of its Shadelands branch at 325 N. Wiget Lane, #130. The barrel is in place and the food drive is running now through January 9, 2026.
"Thousands of families in Contra Costa — where 8.25% of residents and nearly 10% of children live in poverty — go hungry every day,” said Janette Kennedy, Executive Director, Development and External Relations. “Last year, Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa served more than 534,000 meals and distributed 392 tons of groceries, yet demand continues to grow. Federal and state cuts, along with rising food costs, make donations more critical than ever."
With its themes of gratitude and abundance, Thanksgiving is also a time to remember individuals and families who go hungry and who are in need, every day, of something as basic as food.
Please consider picking up a few extra non-perishables the next time you make a grocery run, and then donate to the Kaiperm Credit Union Food Drive. By doing so, you are keeping the Loaves and Fishes pantry shelves stocked and our hungry neighbors fed.
