Club Bowl Is Serving Up Flavors & Freshness
Club Bowl specializes in fresh, organic, made-to-order acai bowls, and offers plenty of healthy food and drink choices to fuel athletes and families.
Last month, you met Alex Blitstein, founder and artistic director of The Dance House Walnut Creek, which opened in August in the Shadelands SportsMall.
Alex wears many hats, and in the case of his newest venture, many aprons.
In addition to The Dance House Walnut Creek, Alex is the founder and operator of Club Bowl, a fast casual café that has opened in the Shadelands SportsMall, just steps from his dance studio and in the space formerly home to Joozi Juicery.
Club Bowl serves made-to-order acai bowls, smoothies, and coffee drinks, as well as soft serve ice cream, bagels, and baked goods, along with a variety of grab-and-go snacks and beverages. You’ll also find hot items such as breakfast sandwiches, personal pizzas, and soft pretzel bites.
Club Bowl’s signature bowl begins with a frozen acai smoothie base made from the acai berry, packed with antioxidants and low in natural sugars.
The acai (ah-sigh-EE) berry is a small, deep-purple fruit from the acai palm tree native to the Amazon rainforest. Similar to the blueberry, the acai berry is considered a superfood, packed with antioxidants and healthy fats, while low in natural sugars. Club Bowl’s acai bowls begin with a thick, frozen acai smoothie base, which is then topped with fruit, granola, and other ingredients, and eaten with a spoon. Toppings include fresh blueberries and strawberries; bananas; gluten-free, nut-free granola; coconut flakes; honey; Nutella; and peanut butter. Bowls are fresh, made to order every day.
Looking for a cool, refreshing smoothie? Three organic options are Mango Splash, Chocolate Wave, and Strawberry Sunrise, made to order with a variety of milk choices and the option for added proteins and super greens.
The full coffee bar offers lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, espressos, iced coffees, blended coffees, hot chocolate, and teas.
Jacob offers a cool, refreshing Club Bowl sparkler, made of fresh fruit puree blended with sparkling water.
“We have lots of grab-and-go items ranging from yogurts and cheeses, to drinks, protein bars, chips, oatmeal, and snacks,” said Alex, who comes from a long line of restaurateurs and feels at home in the food service industry. “We have soft serve ice cream with and without toppings, sparklers, which are fresh fruit purees blended with sparkling water, and baked goods such as croissants, muffins, bagels, and cookies.”
Currently eight employees handle the shifts, and it’s not unusual to see Alex behind the counter, sporting a Club Bowl apron and taking orders, as well.
Alex Blitstein divides his time as founder and artistic director of The Dance House Walnut Creek and founder and operator of Club Bowl — in both positions, nurturing the health and happiness of young athletes.
How did Alex find himself opening Club Bowl at the same time he was launching his dance studio?
“I walked in one day while building the studio, and I saw that Tam [Joozi Juicery owner Tamara Gerlach] was leaving and that Joozi was going to transition and I knew this was for me. I’ve always been health conscious. To me, fueling is centerfold for functionality for an athlete, so this was a natural fit. I loved what Tam’s mission was with Joozi, and I see Club Bowl as an expansion of what she was offering in the way of healthy, nutritious drinks, foods, and snacks — taking care of our young athletes.”
Club Bowl is open 7 days a week, Monday–Friday, 3–7pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 9am–4pm, with extended hours during tournament days.
