Shadelands Is Emerging as a Player in the EV Charging Station Landscape

Last year, 25% of vehicles purchased in California were electric.

Good news for Shadelands Walnut Creek property owners interested in installing EV charging stations for the convenience of business owners, employees, clients, customers, and visitors.

A Shadelands PBID (Property & Business Improvement District) team, led by Amy Callaghan, Walnut Creek Executive Park, and Jared Asch, Capstone, has completed a deep dive into EV charging stations, providers, charging speeds, and cost/no cost options, and is making this information, along with consultation, available to property owners and businesses.

Shadelands Walnut Creek has transformed from its traditional 70s business park roots to a refreshed, revitalized destination of boundless potential and opportunity. Shadelands draws businesses, employees, and visitors from throughout the region for its premier, wide-ranging lifestyle and professional services, medical facilities, and attractive amenities. More and more, visitors are coming from greater distances and staying longer, linking trips within Shadelands, combining work-related meetings, medical visits, legal and financial appointments, personal errands, dining, shopping, and family-related activities.

Of Shadelands’ many amenities, having access to public EV charging stations is emerging as key for employees, clients, customers, and visitors. Charging stations are convenient and stress-reducing ways for drivers to charge their electric vehicles while in Shadelands, whether for a quick visit or a day-long excursion.

In addition to the existing 15+ charging stations, about 60 new charging stations have recently been installed throughout Shadelands. To encourage and help enable the installation of more charging stations, Shadelands Walnut Creek has kicked off an initiative to increase the number of public stations to 100+.

There are two EV charging hubs at The Orchards — one is in the parking lot near the entrance to Wells Fargo Bank.

Last year, 25% of vehicles purchased in California were electric, and with EV adoption continuing to accelerate, on-site charging hubs and stations are transitioning from a premium amenity to a necessity. Property owners, business owners, and employers are increasingly aware of the need for convenient, on-site or nearby EV charging stations.

A second EV charging hub at The Orchards is in the parking lot near the entrance to Burger Lounge.

“Because we’ve already done much of the research and legwork,” said Jared, “we’re making it easy for businesses and property owners to join Shadelands in its efforts to increase accessibility to EV charging stations throughout the working community, and to everyone who visits Shadelands.”

The decision to install EV stations and to decide which provider and plan to go with is entirely up to the property owner or business—it’s their choice, their decision. “But we have information based on hours and hours of research, and we offer this information and consultation as a starting point for their search and decision-making,” said Jared. “We can put them in touch with vendors, and we’ll walk them through the information we’ve gathered to help get them started.”

Walnut. Creek Executive Park is set to go live, mid-October, with 30 newly installed public EV charging stations at 2125 Oak Grove Road, Walnut Creek.

An illustration of the Shadelands Walnut Creek EV initiative in action: With plans to go live mid-October, Walnut Creek Executive Park (WCEP) has installed 30 EV charging stations in the parking lot of 2125 Oak Grove Road (visible from Oak Grove Road). WCEP has installed 10 DC fast charging stations and 20 level 2 (slow) charging stations that will be available to both WCEP tenants and the public. WCEP has chosen EV Passport as its charging platform, an open network with use and payment settings available at each station with a QR code. Look for the “Now Open” flags and the promotional sandwich boards on the WPEC property later this month.

Walnut Creek Executive Park also has EV charging stations on its property at 2785 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek.
